Campbell edges Runkle; Wallace finishes second at Boardman

Meadowbrook's Vinny Campbell won his second consecutive close race Saturday, edging Fairfield Union's Connor Runkle by two tenths of a second at the Falcon Invitational. Claymont's Kali Wallace finished second in her Division III race at Boardman, while Caldwell's Conner Wilson moved to the top of the area's middle-school boys season-best list with an 11:12 at Belpre.

Team depth also shaped the September 19 results. Indian Valley placed five girls in the first nineteen at Dover, and Claymont's first five boys finished within 50.01 seconds at Boardman. Those performances followed a midweek MOVL meet in which Shenandoah swept the high-school individual titles.

Campbell and Norman lead Meadowbrook at Fairfield Union

Campbell, a sophomore, ran 15:41.9 to Runkle's 15:42.1. His two-tenths margin followed the four-hundredths win over Portsmouth's Ian Putnam at Watkins the previous Saturday. Campbell's 15:25.0 at Claymont on August 29 remains the area's leading boys season best.

Luke Norman finished ninth in a season-best 17:04.2, improving from 17:13 and moving from seventh to fifth on the area list. Campbell and Norman helped Meadowbrook place eighth with 214 points.

Grady Forbes, Easton Bell and Robert Keglovitz completed the scoring five, which had a first-to-fifth spread of 5:46.4. Camdon Rogers finished 16.4 seconds behind Keglovitz. Meadowbrook's district outlook will depend on the runners behind its leading pair as well as the places Campbell and Norman can secure.

Raegan Daugherty led the girls in 24th at 22:02.5. Kairi Marston, Eleanor Webb, Drew Daugherty and Joslyn Marston completed the team, which finished thirteenth with 353 points. Ethan Singleton placed 31st in the middle-school boys race in 12:57.1. Complete Falcon high-school results and middle-school results.
