Wallace second at Boardman; Claymont boys finish fifteenth with a close pack
Claymont senior Kali Wallace finished second among 287 runners in Boardman's Division III girls race on September 19, running 19:03.39. Crestwood's Luci Maschek won in 18:49.02, and Hathaway Brown's Caroline Valentino was third in 19:15.80.
Wallace finished 14.37 seconds behind Maschek and 12.41 ahead of Valentino in Claymont's return after its Watkins races were canceled. Her 18:38.0 from August 29 remains the area's fastest girls time this season.
Corabell Morris finished 46th in 21:46.83, Emma McPherson 76th in 22:39.17 and Heidi Johnson 94th in 23:00.17. Four Claymont girls appear in the results, leaving Claymont without the five finishers needed for a team score in that race.
The boys finished fifteenth with 397 points, with 50.01 seconds separating the first five. Braxtyn Myers was 61st overall in 18:23.67 and Kason Bazzoli 62nd in 18:24.37. Korbin Burkholder, Rocco Scalambrino and Hunter Messer followed in 19:10.70, 19:11.11 and 19:13.68.
Burkholder, Scalambrino and Messer placed 104th, 105th and 107th, finishing within three seconds of one another. That close group gave Myers and Bazzoli support in the middle of a large field.
Waylen Peterson ran 20:46.92 and Tucker Armstrong 20:54.57. Peterson, Claymont's sixth runner, finished 1:33.24 behind Messer. Closing that gap would give the team more depth behind its scoring five.
Middle-school runners Maelee Salsberry and Sage Watson entered the area top tens. Salsberry placed 54th in 14:44.14 and Watson 23rd in 12:21.67. Claymont's middle-school boys finished eleventh with 356 points.
