District outlook: Cambridge and Philo separated by one point; Garaway and Caldwell tied

Cambridge holds the final Division III girls team berth by one point over Philo in the current-season district projection. Garaway and Caldwell are tied in the Division IV boys field, with Garaway ahead on the sixth-runner tiebreak. The close team contests also affect individual qualification: runners on advancing teams leave the pool competing for additional individual places.

The September 20 outlook is based on this season's 5K results from runners in the assigned district fields. Final entries and availability will decide each team's lineup.

The individual outlook

The estimates show the likely last additional individual place, rounded to fifteen seconds. The broad ranges leave room for changes in the qualifying teams, incomplete results and the difference between season-best courses and Cambridge. They offer a guide to the district race while final entries remain pending.

Division II: John Glenn’s boys have a race; its girls have a team route

Dover and Carrollton lead the Division II boys projection, with New Philadelphia holding the third team place. Tri-Valley and John Glenn are next. John Glenn's Nicholas Yarrington has run 19:28, close to the estimated 19:30 individual boundary, while Kaid Ritchey's 19:09.88 and Alexander Applegarth's 19:29 keep the Muskies in the individual picture.

A John Glenn team qualification would carry its runners through together and change the separate individual contest. In that case, Tri-Valley's Aiden Miller at 19:05.0 becomes the projected last additional mark.

Division II girls lists Dover, John Glenn, New Philadelphia and Tri-Valley for four team places. Each has enough current runners for a complete projected lineup. If those assignments hold, an eligible complete John Glenn team can advance together. Steubenville and Zanesville have the separate individual-entry route.

Division III: depth puts several local teams in the picture

Fairless's Wooster results strengthen the Division III boys field. Meadowbrook and Claymont sit inside the projected twelve qualifying teams. Beaver holds the last place with 313 projected points, ten ahead of Barnesville, making the Shamrocks a team to follow near the boundary.

Harrison Central's Hunter Patterson has the twenty-fourth additional mark at 20:50.2, supporting an estimate around 20:45. The estimate stays unchanged if Barnesville or Tuscarawas Valley replaces Beaver among the qualifying teams. Indian Valley and Union Local are outside the projected team places, while Cambridge's boys are assigned individual entries.

Indian Valley and Claymont's girls sit comfortably inside the thirteen projected qualifying teams, along with Barnesville and Meadowbrook. Cambridge holds the final place with 359 projected points, just one ahead of Philo. That narrow gap makes the team race one to follow as districts approach.

With Cambridge in the qualifying teams, Martins Ferry's Sophia Vaughn has the twenty-sixth additional mark at 29:18.09, supporting an estimate around 29:15. A Philo qualification would move that boundary to West Muskingum's Bailee Dean at 28:31.6.

Division IV: Malvern and Newcomerstown hold the final team berths

Shenandoah leads the Division IV boys projection. Garaway and Caldwell each have 87 projected points, with Garaway ahead on the sixth-runner tiebreak. Malvern holds the fourth place, followed by Newcomerstown and Crooksville.

Buckeye Trail's Carter Johnson has the eighth additional mark at 19:43, close to the estimated 19:45 boundary. If Newcomerstown or Crooksville replaces Malvern among the qualifying teams, Malvern's Cooper Dorr at 19:23.45 becomes the last additional mark.

Bellaire, Shadyside and Fort Frye lead the Division IV girls projection. Newcomerstown holds the fourth place with 117 projected points, followed by Catholic Central on 122 and Shenandoah on 128. Malvern's Olivia Maher has the eighth additional mark at 23:29, supporting an estimate around 23:30. A Catholic Central qualification moves that mark to Buckeye Trail's Kloie Eagon at 23:14.40; a Shenandoah qualification moves it to Garaway's Laynee Reneker at 23:22.0. Buckeye Trail's Lily Bonnell at 23:32 and Catholic Central's Claire Flannery at 23:50.00 are next in the individual chase.

A runner's absence from one meet does not establish a withdrawal from districts. Final entries will decide which current-season runners compete.

Final entries will sharpen the picture

Toronto's girls have no 2026 5K result listed in the field review. Several other schools still have incomplete season results, leaving room for the outlook to change as more races and final lineups become available.

Final district entries will settle team selections and name questions described in the reporting notes. The actual qualifying times can fall outside the estimated ranges.

The Contenders, results and forecast notes lists the season results, projected team order and individual possibilities. The public watch includes runners within ninety seconds of their field's estimate, with the same rule applied to all twelve programs.

District qualifiers race at Pickerington North on October 31. The official East District assignments and regional schedule and representation set out that route. The September 13 forecast remains in the archive; this edition replaces its historical returner assumptions with current-season results.
