Newcomerstown, Malvern face a close race for a regional place

Shenandoah remains the Division IV boys favorite in the current-season forecast. The more unsettled race is for the fourth and final team place at Cambridge, where Newcomerstown leads Malvern by two points in the opening mock.

Across the six district races, Cambridge’s girls hold the last Division III team place, and Morgan and Sandy Valley are among the boys teams closest to the line. A team moving into the advancing group can also change the individual qualifiers, even when those runners finish in the same order.

Division IV: the fifth and sixth finishers matter

Shenandoah, Garaway and Caldwell lead the boys opening mock. Newcomerstown scores 124 and Malvern 126 for the last place. A two-place move by Malvern’s Parker Babiczuk produces a tied score, which the Hornets win on their sixth finisher. The recent-race case also puts Malvern in the advancing group.

Bellaire, Shadyside and Fort Frye lead the girls mock, with Catholic Central fourth at 121. Newcomerstown follows at 133 and can reverse that order through a small pack move. Garaway’s Lydia Raber holds the last additional individual place in the opening order.

Division III: Cambridge, Morgan defend the last places

Cambridge’s girls score 392, ahead of Martins Ferry at 410 and Philo at 415. A recent-form check narrows those margins. The opening boys mock puts Sandy Valley at 270 and Morgan at 273, with Beaver next at 300. A change in that team order also reshapes the individual race.

The additional individual line now sits at River View’s Russell Maroni and his 19:55.03 mark for boys, and Beaver’s Hadley Johnston at 27:01 for girls. Those revised lines reflect the closer check of distinct runners and full scoring; the times are current-season marks used in the mock, not district results.

Division II: New Philadelphia has room; the girls field needs an entry check

Dover, Carrollton and New Philadelphia take the three opening boys team places. Tri-Valley is the nearest challenger. Bryce Hardman holds the last additional individual place, narrowly ahead of John Glenn’s Nicholas Yarrington and Alexander Applegarth.

John Glenn’s girls are fourth when Steubenville’s current runners are scored as a complete team. Steubenville is listed “Ind” on the assignment page, but OHSAA defines a district team by at least five eligible finishers. The expanded mock shows both the complete-team and four-finisher cases; four listed teams should not be treated as an automatic qualification promise.

The time estimates concern runners outside advancing teams. They remain broad because final entries, team outcomes and courses can change the line. For the named runners and exact finish-order scenarios, read the six mock races.
