Cambridge's girls move into the final team place in a tight district picture

Cambridge's girls hold the last projected Division III team place in the October 4 outlook, but Philo and Martins Ferry are close behind. The Bobcats have 409 projected points, five ahead of Philo and six ahead of Martins Ferry, making the next few races important to all three teams.

Division III sends thirteen girls teams and twelve boys teams from Cambridge to regionals. Their runners advance together, with additional individual places going to athletes outside those teams. That gives several area runners more than one path to the next meet.

The closest team contests

Indian Valley's girls are second in the projection, two points ahead of Tuscarawas Valley, with Claymont fourth. Their recent races show how close the contest can be: Indian Valley won All-County by two, while Tuscarawas Valley beat both the Braves and Mustangs at Cambridge.

Barnesville is tenth and Meadowbrook eleventh in the girls projection. Cambridge holds thirteenth, with Philo and Martins Ferry in close pursuit. The additional-individual estimate has moved from last week's 28:00 to around 27:15, with a broad 26:00–28:15 range.

Meadowbrook is sixth and Claymont ninth in the Division III boys projection. West Holmes holds the twelfth qualifying place, while Barnesville, Indian Valley and Union Local remain in the chase. Philo and Cambridge have individual-entry assignments. The individual estimate stays around 20:15, with an 18:45–21:15 range.

Shenandoah leads the Division IV boys projection, followed by Garaway and Caldwell. Newcomerstown holds fourth with 116 projected points, four ahead of Malvern. The close final team contest also shapes the individual race, where the estimate has moved from 19:45 to around 19:15, with an 18:15–20:30 range.

Bellaire, Fort Frye, Shadyside and Catholic Central hold the four projected Division IV girls team places. Newcomerstown follows, fourteen points behind Catholic Central, with Ridgewood and Shenandoah also pursuing a berth. The individual estimate has moved from 23:30 to around 23:00, with a 22:00–24:30 range. Toronto's missing current 5K results leave a gap in the field review.

John Glenn's two different routes

Division II girls still lists four teams for four qualifying places. If those assignments hold, a complete eligible John Glenn team can advance together. Eight additional individual places offer another route outside those teams.

John Glenn's boys are fifth in the six-team projection, behind Dover, Carrollton, New Philadelphia and Tri-Valley. Three teams advance, leaving the Muskies with both a team chase and individual possibilities. The additional-individual estimate remains around 19:30, with an 18:00–20:30 range. An assignment-heading discrepancy is described in the reporting notes.

What to watch before districts

The October 4 outlook uses this season's 5K results from runners in the assigned fields. Final entries and availability will settle each team's lineup, and changes in the qualifying teams can alter the additional individual race.

The estimates are rounded to fifteen seconds, with broad ranges for changes in the field and differences between season-best courses and Cambridge. Actual qualifying times can fall outside those ranges.

The individual watch includes runners within ninety seconds of their field's estimate: 21:00 for Division II boys, 21:45 for Division III boys, 28:45 for Division III girls, 20:45 for Division IV boys and 24:30 for Division IV girls. The same estimate applies to each local school in that race. The evidence page contains the full runner lists, sources and alternate team outcomes.

Districts are October 24 at Cambridge, followed by regionals October 31 at Pickerington North. Campbell's win and Estadt's fourth place there offer encouraging postseason context, while state places will be decided against the regional field.
