Campbell wins another close one; Wallace doubles up as October racing begins

Vinny Campbell needed only 2.57 seconds of separation to turn a field of 475 finishers into another victory. The Meadowbrook sophomore won Saturday's Panther Invitational varsity boys race at Pickerington North in 15:38.90, edging Bellaire senior Landen Perdue's 15:41.47. A week after winning his division at Malone, Campbell again finished ahead of every runner in his race, this time against a field that also included Warren's Luke Rettenberger, third in 15:56.13.

Claymont senior Kali Wallace supplied a different kind of winning margin. She won the Tuscarawas All-County girls race Tuesday in 18:36, 69 seconds ahead of Tuscarawas Valley's Josie Eick, then won the Charlie Fondale Memorial Cambridge Bobcats Invitational on Saturday in 19:07. John Glenn's Ashlynn Kuklica was second at Cambridge in 19:50, 43 seconds behind Wallace and 27 ahead of Tri-Valley's Erin Hogue.

Indian Valley's girls won All-County by two points and finished second at Cambridge, while the Braves' middle-school boys won both meets. Those team wins gave the week's individual highlights a strong supporting story.

Campbell's repeat win, Estadt's breakthrough

Campbell followed his 15:27.56 Red Division win at Malone with a second victory in two Saturdays. His 15:38.90 at Pickerington won the Panther varsity race outright, while his 15:25 from August 29 remains the area's leading season best.

Luke Norman followed in 40th at Pickerington in 17:26.11. His faster 16:43.56 from Malone keeps him fourth on the area boys season-best list. Grady Forbes ran 18:32.93, Camdon Rogers 20:00.82 and Easton Bell 20:03.82 as Meadowbrook finished 16th with 492 points.

Shenandoah had the higher boys team finish, placing ninth with 312 points. Joel Tewksbary led in 12th at 16:25.71. Noah McElroy ran 17:56.79, Emmitt Slevin 18:04.92, Cooper Hendershot 18:25.03 and Brant Stottsberry 18:28.78. Caleb McElroy and Kaden Rossiter followed in 18:33.75 and 18:33.96. The first seven were separated by 2:08.25, with the sixth and seventh runners only about five seconds behind the fifth. That depth gives Shenandoah more than one way to absorb a change in its scoring order.

Ida Estadt gave the Zeps their top individual girls finish. She placed fourth among 401 varsity finishers in 18:56.40, lowering her season best by 10.60 seconds and becoming the second girl on the area list under 19 minutes. Ironton's Marlena McCown won in 18:43.04, with Lexington's Gabi Twedt and Athens' Zoe Wayner between McCown and Estadt. Estadt finished only 13.36 seconds behind the winner and 2.23 behind Wayner.

Meadowbrook's Raegan Daugherty also lowered her season best, running 21:23.75 for 54th. That improves her Malone time by 1.41 seconds and keeps her ninth on the area list. Meadowbrook's girls finished 30th with 734 points, followed by Shenandoah in 31st with 770.

Indian Valley wins the county race, then battles again at Cambridge

Indian Valley's girls scored 50 points Tuesday at Claymont, just ahead of Tuscarawas Valley's 52. Claymont was third with 58. Rowan Harshey finished third in 19:47 and Bridget Pittis fourth in 20:03, giving the Braves two runners among the first four. Blaire Harshey, Jillian Welch and Bailey Herbert completed the scoring lineup.

Pittis' 20:03 lowered her season best from 20:15 and brought her within three seconds of 20 minutes. Claymont freshman Corabell Morris finished seventh in 20:20, moving to sixth on the area list. Blaire Harshey's 21:14 moved her to eighth. The race produced more than an individual champion: it changed several positions in the area's girls standings.

At Cambridge, Tuscarawas Valley reversed the team order, winning with 67 points. Indian Valley scored 81 and Claymont 85. Pittis led the Braves in fourth at 20:25, followed by Rowan Harshey in sixth at 20:28. Herbert, Blaire Harshey and Welch completed Indian Valley's first five. Claymont countered with Wallace's win, Morris in tenth at 21:17, Riley Roach in 17th at 21:28, Emma McPherson in 23rd at 21:50 and Heidi Johnson in 23:10.

Four points separated Indian Valley and Claymont at Cambridge. With districts returning to the same venue in three weeks, the close result gives both teams a reason to watch their next meeting closely.

Biddle leads a local sweep of the first three

Cambridge junior Brayden Biddle won the boys race on his home course in 17:11. Caldwell sophomore Zane Boyd followed five seconds later in 17:16, and Indian Valley senior Nolan Patacca was third in 17:22. The first three finishers came from three covered programs, with just eleven seconds between them.

Patacca ran a season-best 16:59 at All-County Tuesday, finishing third behind New Philadelphia's Kevin Smith and Tuscarawas Valley's Cade Conrad, both timed at 16:44. The sub-17 result keeps Patacca seventh on the area list. Biddle's 16:49 and Boyd's 16:49.8 remain their season bests after Saturday's close contest at Cambridge.

Claymont finished fourth in the boys team race with 160 points, ten behind third-place Logan. Kason Bazzoli led the Mustangs in 19th at 18:15, followed by Braxtyn Myers in 18:57, Korbin Burkholder in 19:16, Rocco Scalambrino in 19:26 and Hunter Messer in 19:45. The first-five spread was 1:30.

Caldwell placed eighth with 253 points and Barnesville ninth with 278. Linkoln Jendrusik led Barnesville in 29th at 18:39. John Glenn's Kaid Ritchey finished 41st in 19:20; the Muskies were 14th as a team. Newcomerstown's Bryson Eckelberry ran 19:48, following his 19:24 at All-County, where he finished 26th. Garaway's Dominic Schlabach had led the Pirates at the county meet in 21st at 18:51; Garaway finished fifth with 123 points.

In the Cambridge girls race, Barnesville finished seventh with 256 points, led by Addy Reed's 22:54. Newcomerstown's Clara Allen and Solee Garland finished 28th and 31st in 22:32 and 22:39. Allen had broken 22 minutes Tuesday with a 21:59 season best. Cambridge's girls scored 429 for 19th. Caldwell's Emma Hayes finished 27th in 22:27.

Buckeye Trail returned to racing after its off week. Carter Johnson ran 19:46 for 53rd, and Kloie Eagon led the girls in 40th at 23:05, a season best. Lily Bonnell finished in 24:55, Kaedence Long in 30:56 and Brayleigh Hickman in 31:06. The team had fewer than five finishers in each high-school race and did not receive a complete-team score.

Middle-school teams make their mark

Indian Valley's middle-school boys won Cambridge with 72 points after winning All-County with 28. At Cambridge, TJ Linerode finished eighth in 11:56, Todd Fillman 13th in 12:15 and Gage Kreinbihl 14th in 12:17. East Muskingum was second with 102, Barnesville fourth with 105 and Claymont fifth with 113. The official order placed East Muskingum ahead of Morgan on the 102-point tie.

Buckeye Trail's Emmett Taylor finished third overall in 11:36, one second behind West Muskingum's Akiyas Hill and three ahead of Caldwell's Conner Wilson. Carrollton's Henry Roudebush won in 11:05. Taylor's time replaces his August 29 12:00 and moves him to third on the area season-best list. Barnesville's Quinn Stephen ran 11:58 for ninth, entering the area list in seventh, while teammate Dawson Hanse finished 12th in 12:04.

East Muskingum's girls finished third with 95 points, led by Olivia Townsend in 18th at 14:26 and Chloe Wilkinson in 21st at 14:31. Becca Bradley ran 14:41 and Nora Burdette 15:02. All four now appear in the area girls top ten, in sixth through ninth. McKinley Kearns completed the team's first five in 16:06.

Claymont's Maelee Salsberry won the All-County girls race in 14:10 and ran 14:05 for 12th at Cambridge. Cambridge's Sophie Callahan was 14th in 14:19, Barnesville's Maya Stephen 16th in 14:24 and Buckeye Trail's Kaylie Shull 47th in 16:34. Shull lowered her season best by 1:11.8. At Pickerington, Shenandoah's Bennett Hendershot finished 23rd among 413 boys in 11:43.97 over 3,200 meters, moving to fourth on the area boys list.

The Cambridge middle-school races were two miles; All-County and Panther were 3,200 meters. Both distances appear in the area lists, with each race's original distance shown.

The October calendar takes shape

Newcomerstown's current schedule lists the Malvern high-school meet Tuesday, October 6. Indian Valley's invitational follows Saturday, October 10, with separate high-school and middle-school races. The October 7 Backwoods two-milers are now marked canceled, affecting a listed date on John Glenn and East Muskingum's calendars; a replacement has not been established.

The district outlook has been updated with this week's results and OHSAA's current assignments. Philo's boys are now listed for individual entries. Final team lineups will become clearer as districts approach.

Union Local has no race result listed for September 28–October 4. The report also has no current-week result for Newcomerstown's middle-school runners or Shenandoah's middle-school girls. The reporting notes describe those remaining gaps.
