Campbell and Kuklica win; MVL team places turn on depth

Meadowbrook’s Vinny Campbell and John Glenn’s Ashlynn Kuklica won the individual races Saturday at Crooksville. Behind those front runners, the MVL standings supplied two particularly close team finishes.

Campbell won the boys’ 5K in 16:27.1, finishing 12.3 seconds ahead of Sheridan’s Hudson Wilson. Meadowbrook teammate Luke Norman was third in 17:36.8. In a field of 69 finishers, the Colts had two runners home before any team had its second.

Sheridan’s depth still carried the team championship, 40–61 over Meadowbrook. The Colts held off Morgan by two points. Grady Forbes finished sixteenth overall in 19:00.0, Gavin Koscoe twentieth in 19:24.4 and Camdon Rogers twenty-fourth in a season-best 19:28.4. Those three completed the five scores behind Campbell and Norman.

Kuklica won the 65-runner girls race in 19:28.0. Tri-Valley’s Erin Hogue followed in 19:48.1 and Sheridan’s Sheriden Glanemann in 19:53.8. Kuklica finished 20.1 seconds clear of second, while Hogue and Glanemann were only 5.7 seconds apart.

Sheridan won the girls team title with 38 points and Tri-Valley finished second with 76. John Glenn and Meadowbrook each totaled 93 from their first five. John Glenn’s sixth finisher, Lily Tharp, placed ahead of Meadowbrook’s Lainey Haught to give the Muskies third and the Colts fourth.

Meadowbrook’s Raegan Daugherty finished eighth in 21:52.2 and John Glenn’s Adelyn Kent ninth in 21:53.7. They were only 1.5 seconds apart. John Glenn’s boys also finished in a narrow group: River View scored 127, the Muskies 128 and Tri-Valley 129.

Kaid Ritchey led John Glenn in fifteenth at a season-best 18:57.4. Alexander Applegarth and Nicholas Yarrington followed in 19:25.4 and 19:26.0. The pair’s six-tenths separation matters beyond the MVL finish: both are close to the additional-individual line in the current Division II district mock.

Campbell and Norman head into the Division III race, while Kuklica and the Muskies compete in Division II. Districts are October 24 at Cambridge. The MVL timer currently labels these results preliminary.
